World Refugee day was June 20th and all over the world folks gathered to honor the courage, determination, resilience, and amazing journeys of refugees world wide. It was a privilege to celebrate with many at Foster Beach in Chicago. Many volunteers from resettlement agencies such as World Relief and Heartland Alliance were in attendance along with many refugees and immigrants from all over the city and suburbs.
There were cultural performances, lots of amazing ethnic food, soccer games, face painting, ice cream, flower planting, voter registration, performances by CircEsteem, water balloon games, and lots of celebrating and sharing. Here are some of my favorite images of the day.
Today there are over 43 million million refugees and internally displaced people around the world today and being invited to celebrate their difficult and amazing journey with them is a blessing to me and my family!
