The rainy season was cramping our style one morning while we were out exploring Phuket on a rented motorbike (the BEST way to travel in Thailand in my humble opinion...just beware of some of those hills y'all) so we found a little restaurant that served Thai iced tea and decided to wait it out. No one was even at the restaurant when we ducked under the tarps but soon a woman appeared and said she could make us coffee and tea. She even showed me to a place a could wring out my clothes and hang them.
The Thai iced tea is amazing and so unique! My mission is to learn how to make it here....trials starting this week. I read my book and sipped my tea with no real agenda while Jason wandered over to a local beach. He decided to try snorkeling and I just relaxed and observed the folks around me. Soon the sun peeked through the clouds and in minutes folks came out from under tarps, tin awnings, and from under trees and life continued. I joined a woman who was fishing on this small beach and although we could not communicate with language we laughed a lot and she showed me how she was fishing using a local sponge and thin fishing line she had to patiently untangle each cast. I was impressed with her mad skill becuase everytime she threw her lure out she had a bite within a few minutes. She invited me to sit next to her and laughed as I cheered her on. There were only a few people on this gorgeous beach and if we had not been forced to stop because of the rain we never would have seen this place. These are some of my favorite memories of traveling....the unpected adventures.
I am always grateful when an unexpected detour turns into adventure.
Never stop exploring. xoxo, Roxanne
